My name is Alex Swotinsky and I am the author of this website. I am currently a student at The University of Maryland where I am taking English 101. My final English project is to create a website about a topic I feel strongly about. Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I played football, baseball, lacrosse, taekwondo, and volleyball. I'm already anticipating the beginning of the next NFL season, and I just finished recovering from the United States Men's Olympic ice hockey loss to Canada. As I religiously follow sports, there is one headline that I regularly see pop up: "Paying College Athletes." While most professional athletes rake in millions of dollars per year, college athletes are paid nothing. For the past few years, there has been a huge public debate over whether the NCAA should start paying college athletes in return for their hard work and labor. As a sports fan, it's hard to ignore such a strong debate. So I decided to write by website about whether or not to pay college athletes. I have spent the past semester researching both sides of the debate, and I have structured this website to provide my own solution of how to go about paying college athletes (if at all).
